WHAT IS SMART LIPO?
It is the most recent laser fat removal method. This technique was first discovered in Europe and is presently available in the US. This method has been extensively used throughout South America, Europe and Asia during the last 10 years. The process involves a laser, which dissolves fat quickly and tones the skin in virtually any body part. The procedure can be done in an office and does not require the use of general anesthesia.

ARE THE RESULTS PERMANENT?
The results are semi-permanent. If the patient gains weight, the fat returns to treated and non treated areas. Even though the makers of this procedure and some doctors may assure the patient, there is no treatment that can remove fat cells permanently. The best way to get rid of fat is exercising continuously and keeping a healthy diet.  

HOW IS THE PROCEDURE CARRIED OUT?
The procedure is done in an office or clinic. Beforehand, the areas with fat buildups are marked and a local anesthetic is used to numb the area. The laser is a machine that is used like a pen and is applied close to the skin. As soon as the laser is applied, the fat cells break. The fluid that comes out from the fat cells is drained by the body’s natural system (lymphatic system). The laser also causes tiny blood clots to form on contact, in the blood vessels, resulting in less bleeding and swelling. The laser also affects the skin’s collagen which causes the skin’s tone to increase. Every session takes approximately 30-45 minutes.

WHAT IS THE RECUPERATION LIKE?
Most people tend to have a few bruises and pain. Wearing tight clothes or a girdle may help reduce inflammation, depending on the area that was treated. The bruising disappears in 2 to 3 days, and all patients may resume their activities within 24 hours.

WHEN ARE RESULTS VISIBLE?
Soon after the laser procedure the treated area will look toned, compact and smaller. During the next 6-8 weeks, the skin and the area surrounding it will reshape and adjust to the outline of the body. The reshaping is a gradual process and the best results are seen after 2 months.

HOW MANY SESSIONS CAN I HAVE?
It all depends on the area and where it is located. Generally, 1-3 sessions are more than necessary for most people. Follow up sessions are only done after a 3-6 month period.

AFTER SMART LIPO, WHEN CAN I GO BACK TO WORK?
You may return to your job within 24 hours.
